There are several benefits to having a beard. Your facial hair can protect you from the sun, prevent bacterial infections, and keep you warm in the winter. Not to mention, women find facial hair to be extremely attractive.

You know what else women find attractive? Good hygiene. So how do you balance between the two?

Using a cleanser every morning and every night should be a permanent and consistent part of your skincare routine. Washing your face seems simple enough, right? That’s because it is, but what happens when you add a beard to the mix?

There are some differences between washing your face with and without a beard. Today, we will be providing you with easy and effective tips for keeping your skin and facial hair clean and clear. Here is a step-by-step guide for washing your face with a beard.

Step 1: Cleanse

During the day and night, bacteria, dirt, dead skin cells, and sebum can collect on your skin, building up and clogging your pores, resulting in pimples and premature aging. This is why washing your face twice a day is key to keeping it clear.

The areas of your face covered in hair require cleansing too. While facial hair can catch external bacteria and keep it from reaching your epidermis, it can also keep oil and dirt near the hair follicles. If untended, this can lead to acne, flakiness, and itchiness. This is why it is important to wash your entire face.

This might seem obvious, but your beard is not skin; it’s hair. Therefore, picking the right product to wash both your face and hair may take a little more attention than if you were selecting something for solely shaven skin.

Shampoo is not the right option for washing your facial hair. Since it is designed for hair, not skin, it may cause irritation. Instead, save the shampoo for the hair on top of your head and use a gentle cleanser for your face and beard.

We recommend using Particle Face Wash. Our cleanser is specially designed for men to remove oil, grime, and dirt and leave their faces feeling fresh, clean, and revitalized. Our premium ingredients, including Cinnamomum extract, Allantoin, and Aloe vera, hydrate and soothe the skin and prevent irritation.

Before applying your cleanser, an additional tip for washing your beard is to use the steam from your shower or a wet, warm washcloth placed on your face to loosen the hair follicles and soften the skin below. Hot water may be too strong for the skin and risks the potential of stripping away necessary natural oils. Lukewarm oil should be enough to open up your pores without harming your skin.

Once your skin and hair are prepped for cleansing, pump a handful of foam onto your wet palms and use it to gently spread it over your entire face. Once complete, rinse off your face, wash thoroughly with water, and allow your skin to dry. Either allow it to air dry or gently pat it with a soft, clean towel.

Remember to repeat this process at night before bed. While alluring, facial hair has the unfortunate tendency to trap oil and grime around the hair follicles, leading to clogging and irritations. This makes cleaning at least twice a day all the more important.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Normally, shaving takes care of removing the upper layers of your skin. However, with a beard, the closest you’ll be getting to shaving is trimming. So how can you offer your cleanser that extra support without shaving off your facial hair?

The solution to your problem may be exfoliating. Exfoliation is a process in which dead skin cells are removed from the outer layers of your skin. In addition to ridding your skin of dead skin cells, other benefits of exfoliating include increasing blood circulation and brightening your appearance.

There are two main methods for exfoliation: mechanical exfoliation and chemical exfoliation.

Mechanical exfoliation is the type of exfoliation that uses tools like specially made sponges, brushes, and gloves to shed dead skin cells from the outermost layers of your skin.

The better option for treating your skin, however, may be to use chemical exfoliation. Exfoliating chemically means using chemicals to dissolve your face of dead skin cells. Exfoliating scrubs usually contain alpha-hydroxy acids like glycolic and lactic acid or beta hydroxy acids like salicylic acid.

Since you have just washed your face, your skin is fully prepped for exfoliating. Apply your chemical exfoliator in small, circular motions for about 30 seconds, and then rinse the product off with lukewarm water.

If your specific exfoliator requires that you fully cleanse your face after applying your chemical solution, then consider switching step one and step two. Just remember that to exfoliate properly, you need a clean face. Aim to exfoliate two to three times a week.

Step 3: Moisturize

After cleansing and exfoliating, it is smart to use a moisturizer to maintain skin hydration and prevent irritation. It is technically fine to rub your regular moisturizer into your beard and onto the skin underneath it, but we recommend using beard oil on your facial hair if you want something more than “fine” (which you should).

Beard oil is more easily absorbed into the beard than lotion. It moisturizes your facial hair and the area of skin that it covers, keeping you hydrated and free of flaking. Beard oil also softens the beard, allowing it to function as a styling agent. On account of its moisturizing agents, the oil can tame any flyaway hairs and leave you smelling fresh.

When it comes to application, use a face cream on all visible areas of skin and use beard oil on any spot covered with facial hair.

For your face cream, we recommend Particle Face Cream. This premium 6-in-1 cream is a radical innovation in men’s skincare. This moisturizer provides a full facial treatment for men of all skin types, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, alleviating eye bags, dark spots, all while soothing your skin.

Particle Face Cream provides you with a handsome and healthy complexion using high-grade ingredients. The right ingredients are what separates our cream from competing brands.

Amongst our healthy, all-natural ingredients are jojoba oil which uses its soothing properties to reduce dryness and redness and soothe the skin. Shea butter protects the skin from ultraviolet rays and nourishes the skin, and vitamin E helps the skin as it ages.

Squirt a dime-sized amount of Particle Face Cream onto your fingers and massage it into your skin, avoiding all bearded areas.

Then, you can move on to applying your beard oil. It is recommended that, when not exfoliating, you use your beard oil immediately after cleansing so that your hair follicles are open and best suited for absorbing oil.

We suggest trying Particle Beard Oil. Our beard oil softens, styles, and nourishes your facial hair while eliminating itching. It is your quick ticket to maximum hydration and shine, nurturing a fresh, healthy, well-groomed look that is simultaneously sharp and soft.

Our beard oil is a unique blend of 100 percent natural oils, vital antioxidants, and vitamins A, C, and E. Our ingredients include Avocado oil, Hemp oil, and Apricot oil. The avocado oil soothes skin and promotes a fuller beard, the hemp oil adds shine and moisture to the beard and strengthens your beard hair, and the apricot oil softens your beard hair and moisturizes the skin under your beard.

Using the right amount of beard oil will leave you feeling fresh and itch-free, but be careful not to use too much as this might result in irritation.

Drip three to four drops of oil onto your hand and spread them on your fingertips and palms. Massage the oil into the beard and the skin of your chin and cheeks. If your beard is on the longer side, you can use a comb to ensure that the product coats every hair. To finish, groom and style your beard as you normally would.

Do this twice a day, applying your beard oil both in the morning and at night before bed.

Step Four: Improve Your Diet

In addition to the above steps, we also recommend protecting your skin and facial hair’s health by improving your diet.

Incorporating enough vitamins and minerals into your diet is not only essential for supporting the general health of your body but will also have a major influence on the growth and quality of your facial hair.

For example, vitamin A plays a part in regulating your testosterone levels and the production of sebum. Foods rich in vitamin A include milk, carrots, milk, and broccoli. Vitamin D is essential for hair follicle maturation. Foods rich in vitamin D include tuna, beef liver, cheese, and salmon.

As for minerals, zinc plays a role in hair growth and, lacking zinc may contribute to hair loss. Foods that are high in zinc include seeds, eggs, shellfish, and legumes.

Drinking enough water every day is also essential for supporting hair growth, preventing split ends, and minimizing the chances of flaking and itching. It is recommended that men drink about 15.5 cups of fluids a day.

Conclusion

Taking care of your beard is important and, with a little guidance, can be easy. Remember to select a gentle cleanser that can support both your skin and facial hair, exfoliate a couple of times a week if safe for your skin, moisturize with beard oil, and maintain a healthy diet.
